The stamps in the following Tillaeg, or Supplement, were not issued by the Byposts but by businesses established by private individuals or companies providing in some cases somewhat similar services, particularly in express delivery of goods, luggage, parcels, messages, etc. or in connection with telephones.
Unlike the Byposts, these concerns did not handle mail matter and so, in this respect, were not in competition with the Royal Postal Administration. They did not therefore come within the purview of the new restrictive law of 1888, aimed at the Byposts, in forbidding the setting up of new local posts or the expansion of existing ones.
The stamps are generally included in catalogues of Local Posts stamps and so may be regarded as a “sine qua non” of any worthwhile collection of the Bypost issues.
