
Douglas Lancelot Overbye was of Danish decent – his father Carl Christian Overbye was a renowned Danish musician and conductor.
Douglas was a well known and respected New Zealand philatelist, receiving many awards and commendations, including an award of merit from the ‘Federation of New Zealand Philatelic Societies Incorporated’ for philatelic research.
For some time he was the president of the Manawatu Philatelic society and an honorary life member.
His collection of Danish Local Posts won a number of national philatelic awards over an extended period of time, including:
- Bronze Award – Whakatane 1967
- Silver Award – Tarapex 1969
- Silver Medal – Panpax 1977
- Silver Medal – Zeapex 1980
The collection comprises two albums, stamps and postal stationery, and sixteen loose pages extracted for a philatelic society presentation. This website is set out to mirror as best the album layouts.
The collection takes its guidance from, and is accompanied by, ‘The private local posts of Denmark’ – Sten Christiansen and Sigurd Ringstrom, Trellelborg Philatelic Society, Sweden, 1974.
